Here are some trends which I believe we will see in the next 20 years and I will love to see your thoughts:
1) Cloud Workers - Well we all know (or think we know) what Cloud Computing is about but if this all becomes reality then will we have to change our methods of working? The term was invented by Venkatesh Rao and articles can be found at http://www.ribbonfarm.com/2008/10/23/the-cloudworkers-creed/. What do you all think? Do we already live in a cloud society? I am in America and can get access to my corporate systems from any where - am I a Cloud Worker?
2) Intelligent Advertising - We have already seen films like Minority Report predict this but will it happen. I guess one way in which this will work is via peoples cell (mobile) phones. They contain our personal details and in the future as connection to the internet becomes faster and more secure from the cell then we will be able to make sucure purchases using it. As we near a digital bill board it could be possible for it to detect our likes, dislikes, interests and purchasing habits thus having personalised advertising. There is massive scope to this I believe - personalised video game advertising, as traditional TV moves to online streaming we could see personalised adverts etc.
(3) Life Browsing - Developments in medicine could mean that the current generation of kids in the Western world will live until they are 125 years old. Our lives are becoming increasingly digitalised (check out this blog for one and phenomenon of twitter - http://twitter.com/mmsnews). So in the future we may see a "program" which sports out this data into chronological order and ultimately stops us from forgetting those memories.
